Salem Media, owners of two San Diego area AM radio stations, filed with the FCC recently to modify their FM translator construction permits.
KCBQ San Diego on 1170 kHz is asking for 96.1 MHz in the San Marcos Mountains near Vista with a westward-aiming pattern, callsign K241CT Oceanside.
KPRZ San Marcos on 1210 kHz is asking for 106.1 MHz above Lake San Marcos with a westward-aiming pattern, callsign K291CR Encinitas.
With respect to the FCC spectrum auction, there are some subtleties in making changes to your RF plant that you should be aware of, whether a host or client station. 
And it wouldn’t hurt to be aware of the science even if you’re an FM broadcast engineer.

KFPH-CD, Channel 35 in Phoenix, Arizona was granted a Special Temporary Authority by the FCC in early April to broadcast an experimental signal compliant with the current ATSC 3.0 interim digital transmission standard. 
The Unimas low power sister station of KTVW-DT will serve as “lighthouse” host to the subchannels of several other Phoenix TV stations, including KASW (Nexstar/CW), KPNX (TEGNA/NBC), KNXV (Scripps/ABC), KPHO (Meredith/CBS), KSAZ (Fox), KTAZ (NBC/Telemundo), KTVK (Meredith/independent), KTVW (Univision/UniMas), and KUTP (Fox/MyTV).
KFPH-CD proposes to adhere to the current FCC Report and Order that requires KFPH-CD to simulcast an ATSC 1.0 signal on its main KTVW-DT physical channel.
The experiment is being operated by the Pearl TV consortium run by several of the aforementioned participating owner groups “with a shared interest in exploring forward-looking broadcasting opportunities, including innovative ways of promoting local broadcast TV content and developing digital media and wireless platforms for the broadcast industry.”

iHeartMedia today announced an agreement with its creditors to enter into Chapter 11 reorganization. This long-anticipated move will greatly reduce or eliminate the controlling equity Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners had held since taking control of Clear Channel Communications in 2008.
In San Diego, iHeartMedia owns five FM and two AM stations. Local operations are not greatly affected except that some equipment vendors are not extending credit.
