Dept. of Labor Survey Seeks Electronics Engineer Input

The O*NET Data Collection Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, seeks the input of expert electronics engineers for data for the Dept. of Labor. O*NET, a comprehensive source of occupational data, is conducting the survey. O*NET is a free resource and provides instant access to detailed descriptions on more than 1,000 occupations that drive the U.S. economy.

O*NET has asked the SBE to encourage our members to participate in this initiative to help ensure that the complexities of our profession are described accurately in the O*NET database for the American public. The study, O*NET Description of Electronics Engineers, Except Computer, includes those who research, design, develop, or test electronic components and systems for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use employing knowledge of electronic theory and materials properties. Design electronic circuits and components for use in fields such as telecommunications, aerospace guidance and propulsion control, acoustics, or instruments and controls.

Privacy

All O*NET data collection procedures were approved by RTI’s Institutional Review Board which protects the rights of research participants. To maintain privacy, your expert input will be combined with that provided by other occupation experts and will be used to define work values and worker characteristics for this occupation. The O*NET data is published and released at the occupation level only and/or reported in aggregate form only.

Other than sharing the request for participants, the SBE is not affiliated with O*NET and receives nothing in exchange for distributing the request. The SBE is sharing the participation request to help build awareness of broadcast engineering and multimedia technology careers.

If you know anyone within your organization who is also an expert and would be willing to participate, please forward this request to them.
