KYML FM 88.1 Now On-the-Air

A new non-commercial FM station, KYML, hit the airwaves last month with Christian programming. The station, licensed to CSN International, was granted a License to Cover by the FCC on March 6, 2025. Geographically, the station is atop North Peak, east of San Diego Country Estates, its community of license. The transmitter is at an elevation of 6000 feet and is between Lake Cuyamaca and Julian. Output from the station is listed at 49 watts.

The Christian Satellite Network has over 400 stations across the country. 

FEMA Changes San Diego PEP Assignments

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) contractor Jeff Hugabonne circulated a memo Tuesday, February 11, 2025, telling EAS administrators that,

“Effective immediately, FEMA has changed the designated broadcast station assignment for San Diego national level EAS (PEP):
From (old): KOGO (AM) (FCC Facility 51514)
To (new): KHTS (FM) (FCC Facility 20697) and KLSD (AM) (FCC Facility 34452)

Audacy Asks FCC to Move KBZT and KXSN Transmitters to KGTV Site

On February 6, 2025, Audacy License filed for Minor Changes to move KBZT (FM) 94.9 and KXSN (FM) 98.1 MHz from the KFMB transmitter site multiplexed FM antenna on Mt. Soledad across the street to the KGTV site multiplexed FM antenna, where they would join sister stations KYXY (FM) 96.5 and KSON (FM) 103.5. Neither station proposes a change in coverage. The KGTV site has long implemented a 10-bay, 1/2-wave spaced ERI SHPX antenna for its FM tenants. In 2021, several stations had moved from the KGTV and UCSD towers to the KFMB site.

February Meeting: WiseDV TV Automation Systems

This month we’ll meet in person to catch up with each other as the new year gets underway. We’ll see a presentation from WiseDV, the company headquartered in San Diego that builds TV broadcast channel playout system WisePlay and the live studio production assistance system WiseStudio, as well as other video control modules. Vassil Lefterov and Atul Anandpura are scheduled to represent WiseDV.

DoD Ends SBE 2 GHz ENG Frequency Coordination

Robert “RJ” Russell, SBE National Frequency Coordination Manager, sent the following bulletin this week to local coordinators:

“On November 18, 2024, the SBE was informed by the office of the Chief Information Officer, Department of Defense, that the SBE’s frequency coordination services in the 2GHz band would no longer be required. The SBE’s services end on January 31, 2025.
