CBNE Course in a Day, Test the Next

Advanced IP Networking for Broadcast Engineers is an intensive instructor led day long course. It is assumed that student attendees have experienced the “IP Networking for Broadcast Engineers” course or webinar series, or have a solid understanding of IP Networking fundamentals. This course will focus on deeper understanding and application of the fundamentals in real-world IP networking environment. Emphasis will be placed upon designing an IPv4 Addressing plan, IP Subnetting, Ethernet Switching with VLAN implementation, IP Routing, Network Security, and transport of audio and video content in an IP network infrastructure. Additional topics will include an overview of related content found on the Society of Broadcast Engineers CBNE examination including a practical exercise designed to help prepare for the CBNE exam essay question(s).

In order to take the certification exam on Saturday, June 28th you must fill out the CBNE or CBNT application and mail, email, or fax it to Megan Clappe, Certification Director by June 13th.

This seminar is designed to be a tool to prepare you for the CBNE exam not CBNT. However, both exams will be available to take on Saturday.

May 2014 Meeting: Nautel

At our regular May meeting, Chapter 36 welcomed new chairman Andrew Lombard of KGTV to the helm and thanked Doug Alman for two great years of service. Ellis Terry updated us on what’s going on at Nautel with a look inside Nautel’s new GV Series.

There’s a New Engineer in Town and She’s Going to Kick Butt

I met Nisie Teeter at Lee McGowan’s funeral. She didn’t know Lee, but she was hired in October 2013 to fill the position he left at CBS Radio in San Diego when he became gravely ill, and all her new coworkers were deeply affected by their loss. She’s unusual not only because she’s a woman in a position held mostly by men, but because she’s an extrovert. Her supervisor, Mike Prasser, waited a long time to hire another engineer, and it’s obvious when you talk to Nisie that she is bound to make her mark in San Diego.

Q: Tell us about your radio engineering experience in Los Angeles. Any favorite projects there? Big challenges?

Nisie: I started as an intern at KUSC, an NPR affiliate [in 2001]. When my internship ended, I was hired by CBS LA. My time at CBS was very short as that KUSC had an opening and they wanted someone with IT experience. I was at KUSC for over 5 years, working my way up to Chief Engineer. I was then recruited to go work for the LA office of American Public Media, where the show Marketplace is produced. Unfortunately, I was laid off after close to 2 years there so I decided to take a different route and went to culinary school.
