April Meeting ReviewStudent Night 1999 By Gary Stigall, CSTE More than thirty interested students and counselors attended the special April 14 meeting at the KFMB studios. The meeting drew students from a wide spectrum of interests, from scriptwriting to broadcast operations to maintenance. After an introduction speech, Chief Engineers Marge Baldwin of KGTV; Oscar Medina of KNSD; Rich Lochmann of KFMB-TV; and Mike Somerville of KFMB AM/FM each told about their backgrounds, gave some encouragement, and explained what each has to offer for trainees. Mike Uhl spoke about the advantages of working on the manufacturing side, and defended technical sales careers against the joking of previous speakers. SBE Chapter 36 is offering for the first time a local scholarship to students in technical majors who have a demonstrated interest in broadcasting. Nationally, the Society offers the Harold Ennes Memorial Scholarship. We'll be offering at least one $500 award to at least one applicant. The award decision will be made by a committee in July. | |||
