February 16 Meeting

BMS Shows Off STarLink at Clear Channel

By Randy Phillips, CSTE
Program Chairman, Chapter 36

Broadcast Microwave Services, a local San Diego provider of broadcast equipment, will demonstrate their STarLink series system on February 16th, at 7 PM, at the Kearny Villa studios of Clear Channel Communications. BMS designs and manufactures a comprehensive line of microwave communications equipment for television broadcast, video, telemetry, and electronic surveillance applications.

The modular design of the STarLink Series Transmitter and STarLink Series Receiver Systems allows for the flexible configuration of an STL/TSL/ICR system. The product is capable of analog, digital, combined analog/digital or heterodyne operation and can be easily upgraded between each. The 4RU VME chassis can house up to two transmitters or receivers in various combinations to allow for simplex, duplex, or hot standby and baseband diversity systems.

Started in 1982 by a group of former Tayburn, Inc. employees, BMS was purchased in 1984 by COHU, Inc. The company has a solid reputation for dependable, moderately priced equipment. All modules are plug accessible through the hinged front panel. STarLink is microprocessor controlled which allows for remote monitoring of internal functions, with discrete logic alarm circuits.

Please join us and our guest from BMS, Ron Pohler, who has graciously volunteered to travel all the way from Texas to present possible solutions to some of our transmission challenges. A social hour featuring hors d'oeuvres, will be served at 6 PM, followed by a short business meeting, and then the presentation. Guests are welcome.
