New Chapter SponsorIntroducing GepcoBy Gary Stigall In 1987, the concept of complying with National Electrical Code specifications with respect to flammibility when installing audio and video cable was a new one--to me anyway. I was helping with a project to move NBC in Chicago, and the cable had to be CL-2 or better. Unlike the larger suppliers, we found that Gepco could deliver the newer spec cable, and not ask a premium in either price or delivery time to do it. A half-million feet of cable later, we were satisfied customers. Beyond that little story of having the right spec at the right time, Gepco has stood out because they are A/V specialists. I like that their big cables can be separated into pairs identified by either a printed number or the resistor color code. No arcane color codes you can't remember from one job to the next. And because most cables are marked with a serial footage number, you can identify lost pairs or duplicate a length without having to get out the TDR equipment. Most commonly used cable is available within a day or two from the Burbank facility. Call Michael Yaffe at 818-894-3446. And thank him for becoming an SBE supporter. |
