July Meeting ReviewChapter Donates $1K to the Ennes Scholarship FoundationMargie Friedman of Zack Electronics brought an impressive array of goods to the Four Points Inn for a product fair unprecedented in local SBE history. For instance, if you missed the show, you may not have seen a modern Tek digital oscilloscope in action--I mean one which writes to its screen fast enough to see real noise and quick changes in amplitude. We were brought up to speed with modern soldering tools, connectors, and cables as well. In Chapter business, the scholarship committee, with Beatrice Finley and Sherman George in attendance, decided to send a check for $1,000 to the Harold Ennes Educational Foundation. The foundation distributes money nationally to students demonstrating an interest in a career in broadcast engineering. An effort to make a local scholarship failed to garner any applicants. Tom Cox, a committee member who was out of town, said earlier that he supported the plan. In other business, no one volunteered to help the San Diego Frequency Coordinating Committee coordinate frequencies for NFL games. Benefits include free parking, payment and press box tickets. By the way, John Barcroft set me straight on the fact that frequency coordation here takes place in that recognized committee, and is therefore not ad hoc, a term I had used in previous articles. Manuel Rodriguez of Delphi Systems to gave a short update on their plans for Radio Data Systems to be included in radios of certain General Motors Year 2000 vehicles. Several Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac models were slated as I recall, and many more next year. He left literature describing their RDS product. E-mail or call if you'd like a copy. |
